Lake Kiowee is located in the Carolina upcountry. This view of he lake was taken from the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway (Route 11). The lake is a haven for brown trout and other species of fish.
South Carolina State Flag. The crescent portion of the flag was designed by Colonel William Moultrie in 1775 to match the emblem worn on the hats of South Carolina Troops and the color of their uniforms. The Palmetto tree was added later to represent Moultrie's heroic defense of the palmetto-log fort on Sullivan's Island against the attack of the British feet on June 28, 1776.
Caesars Head. Caesar's Head State Park, South Carolina. Matthews Creek, which headwaters just east of the Eastern Continental Divide, flows around Cold Branch Mountain and plummets through a series of cascades over 400 feet high into the broad mountain valley called The Dismal Raven Cliff Falls.
